GAME RECAP: Oilers Bounce Back with Win over the Cougars
HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA
The Huntington Beach Oilers Football team was back under the lights at Cap Sheue Field to host the 2-0 Capo Valley Cougars after a week ago falling to the Trabuco Hills Mustangs late in the 4th Quarter in a offensive shootout 38-42.
The Cougars got things going early as Capo Valley was able to march down the field on an 8 play 84 yard drive to go up 7-0.
Huntington Beach's defense came to play in the 1st quarter as Steel Kurtz would then pick off Capo Valley's Quarterback Tommy Acosta on a 59 yard pick 6 as the Oilers would tie it at 7.
Later the Oilers defense would force a Capo Valley safety on a bad snap to take the lead 9-7 at the end of the 1st.
Onto the 2nd Quarter, as the Oilers are down 10-9, Brady Edmunds would connect with Junior Troy Foster for a 54 yard touchdown to take the lead 15-10. Oilers would keep things going in the 1st half as Nathan Sammartano would score on a 3 yard rushing touchdown to extend the lead 22-10 going into the 2nd half
Late in the 3rd quarter, Cap Valley would match down the field on a 6 play 89 yard drive to add on 7. However the Oilers would answer right back with a touchdown of their own on a 6 play 91 yard drive that later ended in a Steel Kurtz 4 yard receiving touchdown.
Huntington Beach's defense would end up getting a huge stop in the 4th quarter with 1:15 to end the game and win in a close one to get revenge on the Capo Valley Cougars from a season ago.
The Oilers get back in the win column and improve to 2-1 and will head on the road next week to Redondo Beach to take on the Redondo Union Sea Hawks at 7pm on Friday September 13th.
