GAME RECAP: Foster, Edmunds Set Records as Oilers Reach 5-Win Mark
HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA – The Huntington Beach Oilers football team was back in action Friday night, traveling to Tustin High School to face the 4-3 Foothill Knights in an Epsilon League matchup.
The Oilers had a shaky start but found their rhythm with four minutes left in the first quarter. Quarterback Brady Edmunds connected with Troy Foster for a 15-yard touchdown pass, and Steel Kurtz powered through on a two-point conversion rush, putting Huntington Beach ahead 8-7.
The Oilers kept the momentum going in the first quarter as Edmunds hit Foster again, this time for a stunning 82-yard touchdown, extending their lead to 15-7. Huntington Beach continued to apply pressure in the second quarter when Edmunds found Faris Shehadeh for a 4-yard touchdown, capping a 7-play, 32-yard drive sparked by a Nick Navarette interception. This extended the Oilers' lead to 22-7.
However, Foothill closed the first half on a 15-0 run, tying the game at 22 heading into halftime.
The Oilers regained control late in the third quarter, capping an 8-play, 49-yard drive with a touchdown to pull ahead 29-22. Foothill responded quickly at the start of the fourth quarter with a 5-play, 76-yard drive to tie the game again at 29.
From there, Huntington Beach took over. Edmunds, who had already broken the career passing yardage record two weeks earlier against Laguna Hills, broke two more records: career passing touchdowns and single-game passing yards. Foster also set two records, for single-game receiving yards and receiving touchdowns, on the same drive. That drive ended with a 31-yard touchdown pass from Edmunds to Foster, putting the Oilers up 36-29.
Edmunds then sealed the victory with a 24-yard rushing touchdown, making the final score 43-29 in favor of Huntington Beach.
The Oilers will return home next Friday for a crucial Epsilon League matchup against the 6-2 Crean Lutheran Saints. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Cap Sheue Field.
